Ultraviolet Curing Lamp Kit

Hello my name is Bob Macarger.  I own and run a body shop in Swansboro North Carolina.  For the past 4 years I’ve been working with UV primers (PPG, BASF, Tri-Star, Montana, etc.) but he problem has always been the cost of the UV lamp.  ($1000-$2000).  There where jobs where I could have saved time and money sanding, priming and painting in less than 10 minutes but I couldn’t see spending so much money on the lamp.

Recently I came across a lamp which does as good a job as the high priced ones but costs no more than $150.  I liked it so much I bought the exclusive rights to sell it to body shops.

Benefits:
- Cure time of two-minutes is a maj
or breakthrough in scheduling, speed and throughput!
- No interruption for the repairer. Wi
th little to no waiting time, technician can remain on the project from start to finish!
- Easily applied by aerosol can. No measuring, mixing or preparing and cleaning a paint gun!
- Eliminates pot-life and waste!
-No isocyanate health concerns!

Is a U.V. primer and lamp right for you?

If you run a high volume “thru put” operation and take pride in quality work even when under the gun for time then the UV lamp will help.  You can sand, prime and paint in less than 10 minutes and get a good 2-stage urethane finish with great color retention.

When should you us U.V.?

Use it for small dents (about the size of your hand-unless your Shaquil O’Neil) bumper scrapes, missed dents that the painter picked up, etc.  (Especially when the customer is waiting for the car-a spray can of primer and the lamp helps you recover fast).

How to use the lamp and primer?

  1. Primers: The different UV primers on the market need to be applied differently because of their chemical make-up.  (Ask your paint representative to demonstrate how their product works.)
    1. Start the applications of the U.V. cured primer the same as applying most other types of primers surfaces. (clean, sand, etc.)
    2. BASF, Montana and Tri-State primers have about a 15% solvent value.  Because of this you should not apply too excessive a coat at a time and you MUST give it “flash off” time between coats.  2-3 maximum coats.  IF you don’t wait between coats, you may have adhesion problems.  IF this occurs, it’s the application NOT the lamp.  You will not need to solvent wash the primer AFTER curing. This is ready to sand and topcoat.

    1. PPG primer has no solvents in the chemical make-up.  You can apply 3-4 coats without “flash off” time.  (Be careful not to run it!) The top layer of PPG’s primer remains “slimy” or uncured because of oxygen inhibitors.  You MUST wash off the top surface of this primer with PPG DX440 after curing (this is a very strong grease and wax remover).  What remains is a rock hard, non-shrinking base ready to sand and topcoat.
  1. The Lamp:  The hand held unit should be directed at the primed area to be cured at a distance of 10-12”.

Never point the fixture at anyone.

After application of an area of 8 x 12 inches or smaller, slowly move the “bright spot” of the lamp over the primed area back and forth until the entire surface has been completely covered several times.  Continue to do this for TWO FULL minutes!  Larger areas can be cured BUT, more time will be needed to cure a larger area!

TURN THE LAMP OFF AS SOON AS THE PRIMER IS CURED.
(This will ensure that the lamp will not have premature failure).

  1. WARM UP:  All Mercury Vapor lamps need to be turned on and  “warmed up” For 5 minutes BEFORE using.  Turn OFF the lamp after curing to prevent premature failure of the bulb.

  1. Safety:  The lamp emits U.V. rays so never point it at anyone or face it when it is on.  Protect your eyes (with a _______?) and keep the light from your skin.  (However the lamp is not a death ray and a few second skin exposure will not harm you.)

COST AND GUARANTEE:
The cost of the lamp and holder is $150 plus the actual cost of shipping.  You have 45 days from shipping to make up your mind.  If you tell me within that time that your not pleased, I will return your money when I receive the lamp.
TIP:   Don’t buy the primer; ask your rep. for a demonstration when he comes in use our lamp.

If you are not happy with the results call me at 252-393-7291.  I’ve worked with most of the primers and know what to look for.
